Top 5 Best DVD Rippers

Whether you want to watch a movie on your iPod or back up your too-easily-scratched DVDs, DVD ripping is a mysterious realm for many. Even those in-the-know find it difficult to keep up with the best tools for the job, especially in the face of increased copy protection.
1- DVD Shrink

Despite the freeware DVD Shrink (download) has not been in active development for years, this freeware decrypter, ripper, and compressor is still a favorite all in one stop to copy and make copies of DVDs. Its compression feature is what DVD Shrink also compressing 8GB dual-layer DVD to 4GB sizes that will fit into the standard, ie, single layer DVD-R (the kind of movie most consumers can record). It’s even inspired us to write our own helper application, DVD Shrink, DVD Rip, which turns the already simple DVD Shrink process into a one-click ripping affair.
2 – HandBrake

The free, cross-platform HandBrake makes ripping DVDs to a group of useful file formats very easily propagated, with support for iPod, PSP, Apple TV, PS3, and virtually any other format your device requires. It’s fast, free, and has the difficulty of both ripping and transcoding.
3 – DVDFab HD Decrypter

Like DVD Shrink, DVDFab HD Decrypter cuts through copy protection and rips DVD to your hard drive. Unlike DVD Shrink, DVDFab does not offer compression tools. DVDFab is shareware, but its trial version lets you do almost everything you’d ever need. That said, users who pony to the platinum edition appear to have no remorse.
4 – MacTheRipper (Mac OS X)

Burn Free application breaks the copy protection of DVDs and start the content on your hard drive, which makes it the go to Mac applications such as DVD Shrink and DVDFab. Like the other two, MacTheRipper does not encode their boots to other formats (instead simply boots the DVD menu and all your hard drive), but that’s what the handbrake is there.
5 – DVD Decrypter

The freeware DVD Decrypter works like DVD Shrink and DVDFab, ripping DVDs to your hard drive by tearing through pesky copy protection. Like DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter has not been actively developed for a while, but still doing the job for most people without any fuss.
