There’s no such thing as a “basic” Video Editing PC system

Basic video editing pc
People often start looking for a “basic” PC video editing, since only want to “edit the odd home videos” We do not understand the reasoning. If you use your car only for the odd trip to the grocery store Why buy a whole car? Why not just buy a wheel? :-)

If you are looking to make a video editing as a full time work, or are looking to edit the movie occasionally home to the children who still need to have all the right equipment. A professional video editor can pay a little more than a faster processor or more heavy duty editing video card, but otherwise the conditions are more or less the same. Video is the most demanding of all applications and even more demanding than recent games. If you do not have the right, even the PC once in a blue moon editing can be very heavy, very restrictive, and not something that you enjoy at all. You could end up applying a command and waiting 30 minutes to see what the results look. It will be uncomfortable and annoying.

Some of the things that a “basic” PC video editing, it probably won’t offers are listed below:

  • Not speed. Even better and faster, cutting-edge PC knees to the same video manipulation. You can play the best games, just passing through any other program that normally runs, or play fast-action movies with aplomb, but when you see him begging for mercy to your average home video clip of it, apply a transition few and ask you to do the clip. Now see him crawl like a drunken slug. It’s because video editing PC pushed so hard that the video editing applications are used by PC magazines PC to test and compare.
  • No plugs / analog jacks for connecting equipment such as microphones, music sources, radio, TV, VCR and more video cameras to your PC … what can not input or output to those devices. This is a nuisance, such as video players are very convenient as backup devices to transfer all the images from your hard drive that have not had time to edit. And systems are useful sources for music audio clips you want to incorporate into their film. Then there are digital video recorders that do not have DV input, you need an analog output to the transfer of clips to the video cameras. There are several other good reasons to have a wide range of analog inputs and outputs on your PC. Do not compromise on this or I’ll kick yourself later for not heeding our advice.
  • No conversion from NTSC to PAL or vice versa
  • No conversion of video formats (comes in a variety of formats from AVI to MPG and WMV often have to convert from one another)
  • Not be able to record on the audio track of a video clip (you have a beautiful image of a child blowing out birthday candles to a boy, but was outcry with his microphone and video camera to replace the track crying with someone singing “Happy Birthday”. It may not be able to split audio tracks and video, and replace the audio track with his song)
  • No ability to “shrink” the size of your video clip to email or put it on a website
  • No coding of the clips to MPEG format
  • No DVD authoring and DVD authoring facility to save the clip in DVD format
  • Without possibility of a title or transition and immediately see how it would look through the clip (without having to go away for three hours for each simple effect “render”)
  • No ability to remove hiss and crackle in the audio (sound of the wind in outdoor recordings can be particularly annoying)
  • No color correction or enlightenment, for example, the clip looked OK in the viewfinder, but when played on the PC, it seems too dark and can hardly make it to the people he wants to do the clip by adjusting brightness / improve lighting (gamma correction). Is that clip or scrap
  • No separation of video clips that will be on the same hard disk as operating system. Even on a fast PC this could cause the frustration of dropped frames, freezing and crashing. It’s annoying to lose the last hours worth of work
  • No easy archiving / backup of your video
  • … and more

But the most important thing is that if you have a basic video editing you really do not have a video editing system at all. You have a general purpose PC that always will struggle to edit video on. Things will not work properly, incompatibilities, problems and the constant worry that someone can do something simple – like installing a game on your PC – and do all your video editing software and hardware to go Wonky you.

It is not just for professionals who need to add special effects to your videos. Adding a title, which replaces the audio, adjust the light or the color may seem simple tasks, but require the same amount of power as some of the complex effects of resonance. Even something as simple as a title has to be applied to all frames of a clip so if you want a title the word that appears in a clip of minutes the computer has to “write” the title of 1440 individual frames (60 seconds at 24 frames per second). That requires much more power than most people appreciate.

While the implementation of evidence affects a small area of the image by adjusting the lighting or the color is a different matter. To adjust the lighting in the clip for the PC has to implement a change to each pixel of the image. On the basis of 24 frames per second – Be Prepared – the PC has to apply the effect to 10,000,000 pixels per second video clip!

But what we really need a professional video editing software suite? They are too complex.

Well, then do not use. But what I think. Expensive video editing software comes free with good video editing cards. Do not use if it is not necessary, but I’ll keep everything. A day will come when you feel constrained by offering their existing software or having to do a job that requires substantial discount anything, and like to have something like Adobe Premiere around.

If you are new to editing so anyway – for the love of goodness – to start with something like Final Cut Pro or Premiere. Not be under the illusion that it is a steep learning curve. NO! It is a steep learning curve only if you want to become an expert in the program. If all we wanted is to capture clips, cut and paste, and export the finished product should take about the same time to learn to do it in Premiere, it would meet in some cheap produce X-Free – Studio Bundled – Newbie restricted software suite. And – if you are familiar with the basics in Premier/Editing/Final Cut then you have to learn new tricks that you will not have to start from scratch with a new program. You have no spending to buy the software or the stress of scrapping all he knows about the change of starting over with a package that does not know. You can instead just explore other program features that you feel comfortable with.

So how does an entry level video editing PC differ from a professional one?

A professional system is likely that some or all of the following additional features

  • More storage + RAID configured hard drives
  • SCSI Hard Drives
  • A clear file system, perhaps DAT / Caddy IDE / removable storage, plus a DVD recorder
  • A much more expensive video editing card. Some of them cost several thousand pounds in his own
  • Additional software for special effects, titling, sound editing and other specialist programs and plug-ins for the main video editing suite
  • A PC server level, perhaps with two or more processors, ECC memory, and / or other server features
  • Additional video outputs, plus DV, SVGA, S-video, composite and DV-I
  • Tools, other equipment such as switches, toggles and bars
  • Double or triple the head video card
  • Two or more monitors/screens
  • and other

The very root of your writing whilst appearing reasonable in the beginning, did not sit well with me personally after some time. Someplace within the sentences you managed to make me a believer unfortunately only for a very short while. I nevertheless have a problem with your jumps in logic and one would do well to fill in all those gaps. If you actually can accomplish that, I would surely end up being amazed.
